DevLog 01: Marketing the Game

Is marketing important?

To some degree, marketing can affect a game's business success. For AAA title games, lots of money was spent on advertising and events to earn the attention of the audience and thus create the opportunities of potential incomes. For example, despite the dispute on the quality of actual game contents, Cyberpunk 2077 still achieved a business success due its high exposure to the media.

However, independent developers like us sometimes do not have the amount of budget to put an advertisement on Youtube, or Facebook. Therefore, marketing the game in a low budget way might be our best bet!

In general, we are planning to market our game with two low-budget approaches. Our first approach is making our stealth game as approachable as possible to appeal all kind of gamers. Additionally, our second approach is targeting a specific group of audience in the demographic – those players who was born around 1990 to 2000. Since the average age of our crew’s is around 20-30 as of now (2021), we are doing a game that can represent our mutual memory of our childhood in different part of the world including Canada, Taiwan, Mexico and Turkey. In the gameplay, you will see traditional CRT monitors; old-fashioned toys; classic game console and cartridges; and even more! If you are a kid growing up in the 90’s, this is definitely a game you should not miss!
